Celebrate the Sandhill Crane migration with a special Saturday of art and nature! Join the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA), artist Sheila Berger, and Rowe Sanctuary for a day of creativity, community, and crane viewing.
Begin your experience with the Museum of Nebraska Art at the Gail & Michael Yanney Pavilion. Participants will meet New York City–based artist Sheila Berger and learn about her sculpture Meadowlark, located in the Yanney Park Sculpture Garden. Guided by Sheila, participants will create their own unique masks in celebration of the special “masking" of the Meadowlark sculpture. The workshop is limited to 25 children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. One adult is included in the $10 registration fee. Please call MONA if you would like to add additional adults: 308-865-8369.
At 4:00 PM, participants are invited to join Sheila and community members in the Yanney Sculpture Garden for the installation of the Superhero mask on the Meadowlark.
The day concludes at Rowe Sanctuary with an included Indoor Crane Viewing Experience. Guests should arrive by 6:15 pm. The evening begins with a 20-minute presentation about Sandhill Cranes and Rowe Sanctuary. Guests are then invited onto the patio to watch and listen as Sandhill Cranes fly into the river valley to roost. Viewing is also available from inside the center. Once the cranes begin landing, all guests will move inside the center to watch from the windows as the sun sets.
Rowe indoor viewing availability is limited to 25 total participants, and registration will remain open until all spots are filled. A registration link and code for the Rowe Sanctuary indoor viewing will be sent after registering through MONA for the art workshop.
